4. Waterfall, Bubble Charts and Sparklines

Lesson 4 of 6
Task 1 of 4
  1. On the "Profit" sheet, build a waterfall chart from A1:B7.

Lesson theory
  • Waterfall shows how revenue turns into profit: each column starts where the previous one ended. Increases are blue, decreases are orange, and total columns are gray and stand on zero. In Excel you mark the total column by hand ("Set as Total"); in the trainer, any category that starts with "Total" counts as a total;
  • Bubble is a scatter chart with a third dimension: X is the first column of numbers, Y is the second, and the area of the bubble is the third;
  • Sparklines are tiny charts inside a cell, one per row (Insert › Sparklines). The highest and lowest points on the line are highlighted in color.

In the trainer: select the data together with its headers › "Chart" › the type. For sparklines, select only the numbers of the rows and click "Sparklines".
