24. Time and Paying Hours

Lesson 24 of 25
Task 1 of 3
  1. In D2:D5, calculate the time worked (clock out − clock in).

Lesson theory

Time is a fraction of a day: 12:00 = 0.5, 6:00 = 0.25. So =C2-B2 gives the time worked, and to get the hours as a number, multiply by 24:

=(C2-B2)*24 → 8.75 hours

Without multiplying by 24, the pay comes out 24 times too small. It is a common mistake in timesheets.

Functions: TIME(h, m, s), HOUR, MINUTE.
